IoT is closely related to M2M. What is M2M?

IoT Usage:

When we discuss IoT, we must include M2M concept into IoT.  But What is M2M?


In IoT world, every device including: Sensors, Controllers, Detectors are all belonging to the M2M device category.  

Machine-to-Machine; it's a subject about device-to-device. So if it's device to device, they must work together. Therefore, an APP can not control this kind of event.

Time-critical event : One must make M2M work in gateway-side instead of cloud.

General event :  Yes, one could make M2M work in cloud or gateway.

What is the IoT part :

Basically, IoT could include: IoT devices, IoT gateways, and IoT APPs. You must make all 3 parts work together, then the whole becomes a system.

IoT APP : User Interface between IoT and people.

Gateway : Not all IoT protocols are WiFi compatible, so of one is using RF/BT/Zigbee/Z-Wave, they all need to have a gateway between IoT protocosl and WiFi/Ethernet protocols.

IoT can normally, use Cloud as:


Server to handle jobs that could not be dealt with in the gateway. Of course, if the job could have been done in the gateway, why would we need to go through the Cloud server ?

IoT with M2M:  It is a wonderful product indeed. We will use some examples to explain; then, one could appreciate how IoT with M2M works beautifully together.

Multi-IoT devices:

The most interesting about IoT should be the collaboration of the Sensors / Controllers used. It will make things more convenient and safe; for example:

1. The Temperature and Humidity sensors can be placed in the living room and in the kitchen, then you can configure them individually:

Setup living room temperature and humidity:  >= 30 degrees C, time to turn on the air conditioner.

Setup kitchen temperature and humidity:         >= 40 degrees C, a fire hazard warning!

Because of the difference in location, it can result in the use of different features. For this reason , we made it possible to distinguish which sensor detected a problem.

2. For PIR sensors; we really do not recommend that you place it at the door. The most common placement of PIR sensors is near a lamp or in the walkway, because it's used to conserve energy and only turns on lights when it detects the presence of a person. For home-security use, you may have some rooms or hidden compartments designed to hide your valuable belongings; things you do not want other people to have access to and want to keep track of. This is when the PIR sensors comes in handy. Simply attach a sensor near your valuables, and its battery power will last for a year or so. Because these places are only occasionally accessed.
